Something Real by Kimayo
Kimayo’s summer ‘22 single, “Something Real,” is the fourth single to follow her debut album Phoenix: The Acoustic Sessions. The song has the perfect balance of simple yet meaningful lyrics that make the song relatable after only the first listen. The melodies are also instantly memorable, which make the song fun to sing along with. The production of the song has many nostalgic elements that also add to the like-ability of it, but there are also many creative and unique moments. The drums in the bridge shift the song to an epic mood, which then releases into a calmer acoustic moment of just Kimayo’s vocals and guitar, perhaps paying homage to the simplicity of Phoenix. Then the song swoops backing into the full pop production for the outro, which exemplifies how Kimayo has grown has an artist over her past three single releases. Continuing on this trajectory, Kimayo’s sophomore album is sure to be a great one.
