Possibly by EV/N
Taking a production style from emawk and lyrics about mental health like JUICE WRLD, EV/N digs deep into self-love and growth on “Possibly.”
The intro starts with great stacked vocals, setting up a little bit of an R&B influence. The bass is strong and upfront, giving the groove that is essential in hip hop and rap. There are nice synth pads that fill out the space when the bass and drums are cut out, which creates dynamics throughout the different sections of the song.
Lyrically, the song is about looking inward at one self and trying to navigate how to grow. It starts off with acknowledging that you can be your own problem: “Maybe I’m the reason all they ever do is leave.” After recognizing the problems within, EV/N turns to God for help. “Shit would be so much easier if God talked back to me. Praying every night for forgiveness and the strength to succeed.” Moving on from problems and starting the growth journey can be difficult at the start. Relapses and backward movement is common, and part of the process. But relapses can often feel like failure. EV/N puts this feeling in simple terms: “Stuck in the past; feeling stagnant.” He also offers a reminder to look forward, “…don’t stare too long in the rearview or you might crash.” At the end of the song, to wrap up the personal growth he has achieved, he proudly states, “I love myself - there, I said it… I know I can make it, possibly.”
“Possibly” by EV/N is comforting anthem to anyone trying to better themselves.
